It is not possible. If you bleach your hair you will not beable to get it any lighter than a light lemony blonde. With your hair being dark it wouldn't even get as light as a lemony blonde because it would break off before reaching that point. Bleach is a decolorizer, not a color. It takes the color our of your hair. You can only take out so much color before you hair weakens and reaches that breaking point.

I don't want your 15 dollars :-) But to bleach your hair completely white, you could go to a beauty supply store and buy Manic Panic bleach. It will have step by step directions. The only thing is, the kind you should use and the timing depend on your individual head of hair, it would be best to have it done at a salon so that your hair doesn't fall out and you don't burn your scalp. A salon that does trendy punk styles would probably be experienced in this.

FYI: Manic Panic makes both bleach and colors.

Don't worry about the $15...you're gonna need it to buy a wig, because yes, you CAN do it, but it is gonna be hell on your hair, and anyone that tells you otherwise is not telling the truth.

What you do is bleach it up as far as it will go. You follow the instructions on the bleach kit and then do it again...wait a few days and do it again, wait a few days and do it again. You're gonna go through some awful red stages.

Eventually, it won't be white by bleach alone, because you'll get to the place where you've stripped it except for the hair's keratin, which is not white, but instead, a light reddish-blond color.

When you get it there, and with jet black hair, it is gonna take some real work and time, you are going to have to go back to the Beauty Supply store, and buy some COLOR, not bleach, to go over it. They'll have white or shades of light light platinum to go over it. This is to cover and fill in where you've stripped the hair strand. And to infuse the white color.

You don't wanna do this...you're gonna ruin your hair! That much stress to the hair strand will give you breakage...you'll notice your hair is much thinner, shorter, but yet IMPOSSIBLE to get a comb through without a gallon of conditioner.

So yes, it can be done. But not a good idea!

That's how you'd do it yourself...

Some salon would take it on for you and that would be a better bet, but it wouldn't be cheap or easy for them either. However, that would be a better way to go because this will be a multiple step process.

you cna keep your money but here is how you can do it. it's easy but time consuming.

buy some bleach and 30vol developer

mix it according to the instructions and leave it on your hair (not on the scalp, about 1cm away from your scalp actually.) leave it on for 20min and sit in the sun or a dryer.

wash it out, don't shampoo but wash it out all the way and then dry it off with a blow dryer.

reapeat the steps again for 30min. it's still not gonna be white but it'll be blonde. then that day deep condition your hair for 30min and let it air dry. deep condiotion for a few days and then bleach again. you don't want to strip your hair more than twice a day though. you can buy all the products at www.folica.com and they ship for free!

just so you know this will destroy your hair but good luck!

I suspect that lady (in the pix) was a blonde as a child and this is how she has aged gracefully, or with a little help at the salon.

If you have such beautiful dark hair, I don't think I would tamper with the whole head. Just for fun, you could try a very small section to lift. To from a level 1 or 2 to a 10 or 12 you will need a "on the scalp oil bleach", a lot of time and lotza and lotza money$$$$ and a VERY, VERY EXPERIENCED AND good colorist hairdresser that specializes in NOTHING but hair color.

This is a very difficult procedure. You could volunteer as a hair model at hair show, contact your professional beauty supply store for hair shows coming up and it will be done for FREE!!!

Hair shows are going on now thru Thanksgiving.

If you insist in doing this yourself, please reserve some $$$$ for a nice wig until your hair grows out..allow about 1/2 inch per month.

I have naturally jet black hair but I wanted to add some copper streaks to it (friend is doing it). I had 30 strength clairoxide and coppertone dye, but after 30 minutes with the right mixture the clairoxide had no effect. I bought bleach and plan on having my friend bleach streaks and then redye them with the copper hair dye. I plan on cutting my hair in 2 months (i'm a guy) so i'm not worried about any damage to my hair (bleach isn't permanent right?) Is this a good idea or is there a better way to approach this?

Yeah... people tend to make mountains out of molehills. People just do things because, in general, we all want what we can't have. I don't think it's necessarily a black or white thing either... People don't simply "do things". There is a reason why people want to tan and why people want to relax their hair. And there is a reason why it's popular, and much of it is emulating something that you are not.

Personally, I don't know why tanning became popular, but I do know that perms became popular due to racism and assimilation. Which is why rejection of assimilation came in style with the Afro and Black Power/Black is Beautiful Mov't, and why some black Americans choose not to relax their hair. However, I believe relaxers are so embedded in African American culture that it's not simply a "desire" to look less ethnic. But that's where the argument stands...

I have stopped relaxing my hair and have gone natural for a year and 6 months. I use carrot oil and olive oil cream. I use those daily for moisture. I wash my hair once a week. Any more then that my hair gets really dry. I use a deep conditioner treatment once a month. Or you can make your own out of avocado and coconut milk. Well, I like Hairobic Products. You can find these at beauty supply. There a little expensive, but well worth the price. I use the shampoo, conditioner and hair dress. I like them because they smell like peppermint and contain jojoba oil.

Another good one to try is Pantene Relaxed %26amp; Natural for Women of Color. The moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, and oil cream moisturizer all work quite well.

Between these two products I've been very pleased with the condition of my hair.

It really all depends on your skin tone. If you have a cool pale, or a cool darker skin tone, then I'd say go ahead and dye your hair black.

But if you have a warm skin tone, or if you have a skin tone that's kind of reddish [like it looks like you're always blushing] then I wouldn't dye my hair black, if I were you.

If you do have a warm skin tone, then you should stick to golden blonde. If you have a more reddish skin tone, then you should dye your hair ash blonde.

In short, black hair only looks "fake" on people who don't have the right skin tone for it.

Black hair is unnatural, unless you have blends of natural black hair already mixed in with your dark brown hair. I would go blonde. I am not a hairdresser, but from my experience, dyed black hair normally exudes a Gothic look or a mysterious look. If that's what you're going for, do your thing. If your looking for a natural and refreshing change, go with blond. Consider highlighting your hair while still keeping your natural brown hair. Was curious how often you bleeched/dye your hair in the past two years and if its damaged, leave it alone, until it is restored, use a good conditioner, hot oil treatment. But give it a break until the damage has grown out and consult an hair stylist before continuing, you have to bleech it before applying any color and I would not recommend that if damage is showing and you may end up with a carrot-top color which then you will have to visit an stylist, anyway. if you still like the red, how about switching to red streaks/highlights? to get the red to stay, try bleaching it to an orange color, then add the red. You could also try the red color depositing shampoos. Try Sally's Beauty, they have a great Clairol Professional shampoo/conditioner for red heads. It's about $10 a bottle.

You can also get your red dyes at Sally's for cheaper than the boxed stuff. Mix 10 vol developer with the dye. With the bleach, mix 30 or 40 vol developer (since your natural hair color is so dark) with a bleach packet before adding the red)

If you want a natural looking black, not a stark black, try Loreal Natural Match in Brown Black. Clairol Nice 'n Easy (Color Code 122/Natural Black). It's cheap (less than $10) and just about any drugstore or Wal-Mart carries it. One tip though, don't get the dye on the counter around the sink or on the walls/carpet/floor...it will stain and never come out. Also, buy some rubber kitchen gloves. The gloves that come in the box are crappy and the seams will split. Once this happens, your fingers will get dye on them and be purple for a few days.

I would definitly go to a salon...if you dont you risk severly damaging your hair to the point were no one will be able to help you. A stylist can mix an match the bleach in a way to match your hair depending on how light you want it etc. plus if your going blonde all over you have to bleach the ends first then the hair closer to your scalp last because your body heat from your head speeds up the bleaching process. you could end up with white roots and dark ends! yes please seek professional help.

Unless you have really really pale skin, i wouldn't advise this! Blonde doesn't normally suit asian skin colour. However, if you went for a dark brown or hazlenut colour, that would look really nice.

you'll have to have her bleach it first, then tone it with a color. The first time you do after the black dye it won't come out the same color as it should as all the dye won't get pulled out. Go for a "carmel" color.

Black is a very dark color....(duh Kimmie)...I would not go with very light highlights....or it will look funny. I would try to go a few shades lighter than your current hair color. Maybe something that would set off the black but very settle...ask your stylists opinion on this as well and go with what you like...after all, you are the one who has to live with it...so best to get what you like than what other's like....good luck and I am sure it will come out gorgeous!

WOW, I think you did too much already, your killing your hair. Did you just say you permed and dyed your hair. OMG, and in two weeks your putting in highlights. BYE BYE hair, honey that's not good for your hair. Seriously, unless your a trained professional and you know exactly what your doing, then that's fine. But even most hairdressers know, that this is just bad business doing all of that to your hair. Do what you want, you will anyway, I'm just giving you some good advice. If you don't want to listen to me, call your local salon and ask them the regular time frame between perms, coloring and re-coloring. Then ask them if your hair will fall out if you continue to do this and see what they say. I'm not lying, I'm trying to help. Just wait the 4 to 6 weeks, until you put another color in. Please.
